Saying “ʿalayhima al-salatu wa al-salam” for Hazrat Hasan and Husayn ﵄
Question
Question: some people hold that it is necessary to say “Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn, ʿalayhima al-salatu wa al-salam”. Is their statement correct or not? And if one says so, what is wrong with saying it?
Answer
Saying “ʿalayhi al-salatu wa al-salam” has become customary for the prophets ﵈ in general. Some people, believing Hazrat Hasan and Hazrat Husayn ﵄ to be infallible (maʿsum), use this expression for them; this belief and practice are wrong and should be avoided.
