Going to eat where one’s honour is at risk
Question
Question: On one occasion people of the biradari (kinship community) gathered and food and so on was set before them, and a man who was the headman said: “Let the turncoats leave the gathering,” and some people were even thrown out, with the food snatched from them. A “turncoat” is what they call someone who leaves one party (faction) and goes over to another party; then, after taking one hundred and twenty-five rupees from such a person, they take him into the party.
Answer
Whoever fears for his honour should not go; whoever has no right to that food should not go. Everyone is not to be forbidden from eating because of one or two people. To humiliate someone in this way and to throw him out after taking the food from his hand is an utterly wrong and base act.
