The Status of One Who Does Not Follow Taqlid and Marriage with Him

Question

One of our brothers calls himself an Ahl-e Hadith: he recites Surah al-Fatiha behind the imam, says “amin” aloud, and raises his hands (raf‘ al-yadayn). Is he a Muslim? Is he included among the Ahl al-Sunna wa’l-Jama‘a and on the truth, and is marriage with them permissible? Are these people, the Ahl-e Hadith, misguided or not? My brother does not insult anyone.

Answer

In some issues the disagreement of the Hanafis with the Ahl-e Hadith is minor; in some it is serious (concerning what is lawful and what is unlawful); and in some issues all four imams differ [from them], and that [disagreement] is very serious. In such issues these people go against the Holy Qur’an as well; because they go against all of these, they are not on the truth.
