Among the noble Companions there were hadith-scholars in great number, but by way of example we shall mention here ten venerable figures — upon them rested the whole leadership of fiqh; they were the scholarly radiance of the moon of Prophethood and the scholarly light of Prophetic knowledge: Ḥaḍrat Muʿādh ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him (d. 18 AH)
