Selling dollars at a lower or higher price
Question
In Malaysia the legal price of one hundred dollars is 245 Indian rupees, but on the black market the price of 100 dollars is 350 rupees, and sometimes it is even more. Is it valid according to the Shariʿa to hand over dollars taking this higher price?
Answer
The Indian rupee and the Malaysian rupee are not equal. The rate that the government has fixed is a legal matter; the money obtained by selling at less or more than it will be permissible according to the Shariʿa.
