Keeping a Tuft of Hair on a Child’s Head in the Name of a Spiritual Guide

Question

Making vows to the saints, and keeping a tuft of hair on children’s heads in the name of the saints, and then, at the appointed time, going to the shrines and having it shaved off — what is this according to the Sacred Law?

This is haram and shirk.
