Asking the Mother to “Forgive the Milk” of a Deceased Infant

Question

If a suckling infant has died, most people have the mother “forgive the milk” (دودھ بخشوانا — a custom whereby the mother is asked to declare that she forgives the child [the debt of] her milk). What is the status of this forgiving?

Answer

[ar]هَذَا مِنْ أَغْلَاطِ الْعَوَامِّ[/ar] “This is one of the errors of the common people.”
