An oath and the expiation for an oath

Question

Question: Once I was discussing some matter with my dear real younger brother. During the conversation the argument became bitter, and in a fit of passion I swore this oath: “From now on I make every thing of his forbidden (haram) for myself.” Is it permissible to swear in this way? What should be done for it to be forgiven? Or will some expiation have to be given? If so, what form will it take, that is, in what manner will the expiation have to be given?

Answer

This too has become an oath. Now make use of some thing of his and pay the expiation for the oath. The expiation is to feed ten poor people to their fill twice, or to give them a set of clothes; if you do not have the means for that, to keep three fasts consecutively.
