E579 Ferrous gluconate — is it halal?

Description

Iron(II) gluconate: keeps olives black, iron fortificant. Made from gluconic acid or GDL with iron sulfate, carbonate or iron powder, or from calcium or barium gluconate with iron sulfate; purification may use ethanol precipitation (patents). Alcohol: ethanol in some routes; animal: bovine liver catalase (patent), beef extract and peptone in media, gelatin as enzyme carrier.
