الْحَلَالُ بَيِّنٌ وَالْحَرَامُ بَيِّنٌ، وَبَيْنَهُمَا مُشَبَّهَاتٌ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَمَنِ اتَّقَى الْمُشَبَّهَاتِ اسْتَبْرَأَ لِدِينِهِ وَعِرْضِهِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

E551 Silicon dioxide — is it halal?

Description

Silicon dioxide E551 is synthetic amorphous silica. Pyrogenic process — hydrolysis of chlorosilanes (SiCl4, methylchlorosilanes) in an oxyhydrogen flame; wet process — precipitation of water glass (sand + soda ash or NaOH) with acid, CO2 or ammonium salts. EFSA names no animal raw material. Possible links: carbon for silicon smelting and chlorination (bone char not excluded)
