The Holy Quran 9:69 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

كَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ أَشَدَّ مِنكُمْ قُوَّةً وَأَكْثَرَ أَمْوَٰلًا وَأَوْلَـٰدًا فَٱسْتَمْتَعُوا۟ بِخَلَـٰقِهِمْ فَٱسْتَمْتَعْتُم بِخَلَـٰقِكُمْ كَمَا ٱسْتَمْتَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُم بِخَلَـٰقِهِمْ وَخُضْتُمْ كَٱلَّذِى خَاضُوٓا۟ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

Translation

(O Munaafiqeen, you are) Just like those before you. They were more powerful than you and possessed more wealth and children than you. They enjoyed their share (of this world) and you enjoyed your share just as those before you enjoyed theirs. (In addition to this) You indulged (in evil and mocking Allaah's Deen) just as those who indulged. It was they whose actions were destroyed in this world and in the Aakhirah (because they will not have any rewards in the Aakhirah for any of their good acts). It is they who are the losers. (Therefore, O Munaafiqeen, your lot will be the same.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إن أفعالكم -معشر المنافقين- من الاستهزاء والكفر كأفعال الأمم السابقة التي كانت على جانب من القوة والمال والأولاد أشد منكم، فاطْمَأنوا إلى الحياة الدنيا، وتَمتَّعوا بما فيها من الحظوظ والملذات، فاستمعتم أيها المنافقون بنصيبكم من الشهوات الفانية كاستمتاع الذين من قبلكم بحظوظهم الفانية، وخضتم بالكذب على الله كخوض تلك الأمم قبلكم، أولئك الموصوفون بهذه الأخلاق…
