The Holy Quran 9:56 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

وَيَحْلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَمِنكُمْ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَفْرَقُونَ

Translation

They (the Munaafiqeen) swear by Allaah that they are definitely from among you (that they are also Muslims like you). They are not (at all) with you, but they are people in fear (too cowardly to express their kufr; they take false oaths out of fear that they may suffer the same fate as the Mushrikeen suffered at the hands of the Muslims).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ويحلف هؤلاء المنافقون بالله لكم أيها المؤمنون كذبًا وباطلا إنهم لمنكم، وليسوا منكم، ولكنهم قوم يخافون فيحلفون تَقِيَّة لكم.
