The Holy Quran 9:55 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَـٰفِرُونَ

Translation

So (O Muhammad ﷺ) do not let their (large amounts of) wealth and children impress (or overawe) you. Allaah intends to punish them with these (punish them by means of their wealth and children) in this worldly life and (Allaah intends) that their souls depart (from this world) while they are Kaafiroon. (Wealth and children therefore become a major cause of difficulty, anxiety and cause of destruction for people when Allaah uses them as a form of punishment.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فلا تعجبك -أيها النبي- أموال هؤلاء المنافقين ولا أولادهم، إنما يريد الله أن يعذبهم بها في الحياة الدنيا بالتعب في تحصيلها وبالمصائب التي تقع فيها، حيث لا يحتسبون ذلك عند الله، وتخرج أنفسهم، فيموتوا على كفرهم بالله ورسوله.
