The Holy Quran 9:47 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

لَوْ خَرَجُوا۟ فِيكُم مَّا زَادُوكُمْ إِلَّا خَبَالًا وَلَأَوْضَعُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَكُمْ يَبْغُونَكُمُ ٱلْفِتْنَةَ وَفِيكُمْ سَمَّـٰعُونَ لَهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Translation

(Allaah had destined that these people should not join the Muslim army because) Had they proceeded with you, they would have added nothing but conflict (to the Muslim ranks) and would have hurried to and fro among you, seeking to cause trouble (by carrying tales and spreading false information). (However, you should still be careful because) Among you are those who spy for them. Allaah is well aware of the oppressors (those who try to cause trouble among people).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

لو خرج المنافقون معكم -أيها المؤمنون- للجهاد لنشروا الاضطراب في الصفوف والشر والفساد، ولأسرعوا السير بينكم بالنميمة والبغضاء، يبغون فتنتكم بتثبيطكم عن الجهاد في سبيل الله، وفيكم -أيها المؤمنون- عيون لهم يسمعون أخباركم، وينقلونها إليهم. والله عليم بهؤلاء المنافقين الظالمين، وسيجازيهم على ذلك.
