The Holy Quran 9:16 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تُتْرَكُوا۟ وَلَمَّا يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا رَسُولِهِۦ وَلَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلِيجَةً ۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

Do you (Muslims) think that you will be left to be (will not be tested), whereas Allaah has not yet (made) known those of you who exert themselves (sincerely, for the upliftment of the Deen) and who do not take as friends anyone besides Allaah, His Rasool and the Mu'mineen? (It is on the occasion of Jihaad that Muslims are put to the test to distinguish the sincere ones from the rest.) Allaah is Informed of what you do (and will reward or punish you accordingly).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

مِن سنة الله الابتلاء، فلا تظنوا يا معشر المؤمنين أن يترككم الله دون اختبار; ليعلم الله علمًا ظاهرًا للخلق الذين أخلصوا في جهادهم، ولم يتخذوا غير الله ورسوله والمؤمنين بطانة وأولياء. والله خبير بجميع أعمالكم ومجازيكم بها.
