The Holy Quran 9:17 — Surah At-Tawbah

Arabic text

مَا كَانَ لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ أَن يَعْمُرُوا۟ مَسَـٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ شَـٰهِدِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِم بِٱلْكُفْرِ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ وَفِى ٱلنَّارِ هُمْ خَـٰلِدُونَ

Translation

It is not (appropriate) for the Mushrikeen that they attend (or care for) Allaah's Masaajid when they testify to the kufr within themselves. They are the ones whose actions are wasted (because they will not be rewarded in the Aakhirah) and they shall live forever in the Fire (of Jahannam).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ليس من شأن المشركين إعمار بيوت الله، وهم يعلنون كفرهم بالله ويجعلون له شركاء. هؤلاء المشركون بطلت أعمالهم يوم القيامة، ومصيرهم الخلود في النار.
