The Holy Quran 8:31 — Surah Al-Anfal

Arabic text

وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالُوا۟ قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هَـٰذَآ ۙ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Translation

When Our verses (of the Qur'aan) are recited to them (the Kuffaar), they say, "We have heard! We could say the same things if we wished to. These are no more than the fables of the old people."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا تتلى على هؤلاء الذين كفروا بالله آيات القرآن العزيز قالوا جهلا منهم وعنادًا للحق: قد سمعنا هذا من قبل، لو نشاء لقلنا مثل هذا القرآن، ما هذا القرآن الذي تتلوه علينا -أيها الرسول- إلا أكاذيب الأولين.
