The Holy Quran 7:189 — Surah Al-A'raf

Arabic text

۞ هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَٰحِدَةٍ وَجَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا لِيَسْكُنَ إِلَيْهَا ۖ فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّىٰهَا حَمَلَتْ حَمْلًا خَفِيفًا فَمَرَّتْ بِهِۦ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَثْقَلَت دَّعَوَا ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَئِنْ ءَاتَيْتَنَا صَـٰلِحًا لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ

Translation

It is He Who created you from a single soul (Aadam عليه الصلاة والسلام) and made a spouse (Hawwa) from there so that he could find comfort with her. (From Aadam عليه الصلاة والسلام and Hawwa many generations followed. Among these generations there were many couples as well. Referring to a couple among the many couples, Allaah says,) So when he (the husband) covered her (his wife), she (conceived and) bore a light weight (a child), which she carried (in her womb). When it (the unborn child) became heavy (and was close to being delivered), they both prayed to Allaah their Rabb saying, "If You grant us a healthy child, we will definitely be of the grateful ones."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

هو الذي خلقكم -أيها الناس- من نفس واحدة، وهي آدم عليه السلام وخَلَق منها زوجها، وهي حواء; ليأنس بها ويطمئن، فلما جامعها -والمراد جنس الزوجين من ذرية آدم- حملت ماءً خفيفًا، فقامت به وقعدت وأتمت الحمل، فلما قَرُبت ولادتها وأثقلت دعا الزوجان ربهما: لئن أعطيتنا بشرًا سويًا صالحًا لنكونن ممن يشكرك على ما وهبت لنا من الولد الصالح.
