The Holy Quran 6:136 — Surah Al-An'am

Arabic text

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ مِمَّا ذَرَأَ مِنَ ٱلْحَرْثِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ نَصِيبًا فَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا لِلَّهِ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَهَـٰذَا لِشُرَكَآئِنَا ۖ فَمَا كَانَ لِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ فَلَا يَصِلُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ فَهُوَ يَصِلُ إِلَىٰ شُرَكَآئِهِمْ ۗ سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ

Translation

A portion of their crops and animals that Allaah created, they (the Kuffaar of Makkah) set aside for Allaah saying, “This is for Allaah" (to be given to the poor because it was not of good quality), according to their estimation (to their idea), "and this is for our partners" (dedicated to their idols). So what becomes for their partners (the share of the idols that happens to fall in Allaah's portion) does not reach Allaah (because they would immediately remove it) whereas what becomes Allaah's (and happens to fall in the share of the idols) reaches their partners (they leave it in the share of their idols without transferring it to Allaah's share). Evil indeed is that which they decide (judge).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وجعل المشركون لله -جلَّ وعلا- جزءًا مما خلق من الزروع والثمار والأنعام يقدمونه للضيوف والمساكين، وجعلوا قسمًا آخر من هذه الأشياء لشركائهم من الأوثان والأنصاب، فما كان مخصصًا لشركائهم فإنه يصل إليها وحدها، ولا يصل إلى الله، وما كان مخصصا لله تعالى فإنه يصل إلى شركائهم. بئس حكم القوم وقسمتهم.
