The Holy Quran 68:43 — Surah Al-Qalam

Arabic text

خَـٰشِعَةً أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا۟ يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى ٱلسُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَـٰلِمُونَ

Translation

(Referring to the Kuffaar, Allaah says,) Their gazes will be cast down (because of embarrassment and fear) and disgrace shall overcome them. Indeed they used to be summoned to prostrate (in this world) when they were hail and healthy (but they refused to do so. Therefore, in the Aakhirah they will be unable to do so also).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

منكسرة أبصارهم لا يرفعونها، تغشاهم ذلة شديدة مِن عذاب الله، وقد كانوا في الدنيا يُدْعَون إلى الصلاة لله وعبادته، وهم أصحَّاء قادرون عليها فلا يسجدون; تعظُّمًا واستكبارًا.
