The Holy Quran 61:5 — Surah As-Saf

Arabic text

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَـٰقَوْمِ لِمَ تُؤْذُونَنِى وَقَد تَّعْلَمُونَ أَنِّى رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَلَمَّا زَاغُوٓا۟ أَزَاغَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ

Translation

(The enemies of Islaam will continue to harass the Muslims as they harassed the previous Ambiyaa عليهم الصلاة والسلام throughout history. You Muslims should therefore remember the time) When Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام said to his people, "O my people! Why do you harass me when you know that I am Allaah's Rasool (sent) to you?" However, when they chose to be crooked (to reject his message despite its clarity), Allaah further twisted (swerved) their hearts (allowed them the chance to express more opposition). Allaah does not guide a sinful (disobedient) nation (because they reject every means of guidance Allaah sends to them).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

واذكر لقومك -أيها الرسول- حين قال نبي الله موسى عليه السلام لقومه: لِمَ تؤذونني بالقول والفعل، وأنتم تعلمون أني رسول الله إليكم؟ فلما عدلوا عن الحق مع علمهم به، وأصرُّوا على ذلك، صرف الله قلوبهم عن قَبول الهداية؛ عقوبة لهم على زيغهم الذي اختاروه لأنفسهم. والله لا يهدي القوم الخارجين عن الطاعة ومنهاج الحق.
