The Holy Quran 5:4 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ مَاذَآ أُحِلَّ لَهُمْ ۖ قُلْ أُحِلَّ لَكُمُ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتُ ۙ وَمَا عَلَّمْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَوَارِحِ مُكَلِّبِينَ تُعَلِّمُونَهُنَّ مِمَّا عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّآ أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ ۖ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ

Translation

They (the Muslims) ask you (O Muhammad ﷺ) what is permissible (lawful) for them (from the various types of food). Say, "Permitted (made lawful) for you are the pure (wholesome) things and the (game hunted by) hunting animals (dogs and birds) that you tamed and trained (to hunt according to the injunctions of the Shari'ah), teaching them what (etiquette of hunting) Allaah had taught you. Eat of what they hunt for you (when they fulfil the conditions of the Shari'ah in hunting) and take the name of Allaah (when releasing the hunting dog or bird). Fear (the reckoning of) Allaah! Verily Allaah is swift in reckoning (so do not transgress the limits)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يسألك أصحابك -أيها النبي-: ماذا أُحِلَّ لهم أَكْلُه؟ قل لهم: أُحِلَّ لكم الطيبات وصيدُ ما دَرَّبتموه من ذوات المخالب والأنياب من الكلاب والفهود والصقور ونحوها مما يُعَلَّم، تعلمونهن طلب الصيد لكم، مما علمكم الله، فكلوا مما أمسكن لكم، واذكروا اسم الله عند إرسالها للصيد، وخافوا الله فيما أمركم به وفيما نهاكم عنه. إن الله سريع الحساب.
