The Holy Quran 5:13 — Surah Al-Ma'idah

Arabic text

فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِم مِّيثَـٰقَهُمْ لَعَنَّـٰهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا قُلُوبَهُمْ قَـٰسِيَةً ۖ يُحَرِّفُونَ ٱلْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِۦ ۙ وَنَسُوا۟ حَظًّا مِّمَّا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ وَلَا تَزَالُ تَطَّلِعُ عَلَىٰ خَآئِنَةٍ مِّنْهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِّنْهُمْ ۖ فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱصْفَحْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Translation

Because they (the Bani Israa'eel) broke their pledge, We cursed them (expelled them from the fold of Our mercy) and made their hearts hard (so that they were unable to accept Imaan). They changed words (of the Torah) from their places (such as the description of Rasulullaah ﷺ) and forgot a great deal of the advice given to them (so they derived no benefit from it). You (O Muslims!) shall continuously discover some sort of treachery from them (from the Jews), except from a few of them (who become Muslims). Forgive them and overlook (if you are not in a position to wage Jihaad). Verily Allaah loves those who are good (the kind ones).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فبسبب نقض هؤلاء اليهود لعهودهم المؤكَّدة طردناهم من رحمتنا، وجعلنا قلوبهم غليظة لا تلين للإيمان، يبدلون كلام الله الذي أنزله على موسى، وهو التوراة، وتركوا نصيبًا مما ذُكِّروا به، فلم يعملوا به. ولا تزال -أيها الرسول- تجد من اليهود خيانةً وغَدرًا، فهم على منهاج أسلافهم إلا قليلا منهم، فاعف عن سوء معاملتهم لك، واصفح عنهم، فإن الله يحب مَن أحسن العفو والصفح…
