The Holy Quran 58:13 — Surah Al-Mujadila

Arabic text

ءَأَشْفَقْتُمْ أَن تُقَدِّمُوا۟ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ نَجْوَىٰكُمْ صَدَقَـٰتٍ ۚ فَإِذْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا۟ وَتَابَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

(Referring to the reluctance of some Muslims to discuss privately with Rasulullaah ﷺ because they had to offer charity, Allaah says,) Are you reluctant (afraid) to offer charity before your private discussions (with Rasulullaah ﷺ)? (Allaah then cancelled the command to give charity before private discussions with Rasulullaah ﷺ and said,) If you do not do it and Allaah pardons you (by completely cancelling the command), then (do not be reluctant to fulfil your other obligations, so continue to) establish salaah, pay zakaah and obey Allaah and His Rasool ﷺ. (Do not forget that) Allaah is Informed of what you do.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

أخشيتم الفقر إذا قدَّمتم صدقة قبل مناجاتكم رسول الله؟ فإذْ لم تفعلوا ما أُمرتم به، وتاب الله عليكم، ورخَّص لكم في ألا تفعلوه، فاثبتوا وداوموا على إقام الصلاة وإيتاء الزكاة وطاعة الله ورسوله في كل ما أُمرتم به، والله سبحانه خبير بأعمالكم، ومجازيكم عليها.
