The Holy Quran 58:12 — Surah Al-Mujadila

Arabic text

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا نَـٰجَيْتُمُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَقَدِّمُوا۟ بَيْنَ يَدَىْ نَجْوَىٰكُمْ صَدَقَةً ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ وَأَطْهَرُ ۚ فَإِن لَّمْ تَجِدُوا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Translation

(To prevent people from unnecessary private discussions with Rasulullaah ﷺ, which were consuming too much of his time, Allaah instructed,) O you who have Imaan! When you (wish to) speak privately (in confidence) with the Rasool ﷺ, then offer charity (voluntary) before speaking. This is best for you and purer. (However,) If you do not find the means (to spend in charity and the need for such a discussion is vital) then (you may discuss without giving charity and Allaah will forgive you because) Allaah is certainly Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

يا أيها الذين صدَّقوا الله ورسوله وعملوا بشرعه، إذا أردتم أن تُكلِّموا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سرًّا بينكم وبينه، فقدِّموا قبل ذلك صدقة لأهل الحاجة، ذلك خير لكم لما فيه من الثواب، وأزكى لقلوبكم من المآثم، فإن لم تجدوا ما تتصدقون به فلا حرج عليكم؛ فإن الله غفور لعباده المؤمنين، رحيم بهم.
