The Holy Quran 4:94 — Surah An-Nisa

Arabic text

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُوا۟ وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَنْ أَلْقَىٰٓ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا فَعِندَ ٱللَّهِ مَغَانِمُ كَثِيرَةٌ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ كُنتُم مِّن قَبْلُ فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا

Translation

O you who have Imaan! When you travel in Allaah's way, then verify (when people claim to be Muslims) and do not say to the one who makes his submission (to Islaam) apparent, "You are not a Mu'min!" (thereby) seeking the gains of this worldly life (to take his possessions as booty). With Allaah lies tremendous (abundant) booty (rewards much better that the wealth of this world). You were the same (as the Kuffaar, shedding innocent blood for worldly reasons) before, until Allaah bestowed His favour on you (and made you Muslims). So verify (investigate any person's submission to Islaam before disbelieving him) ! Indeed Allaah is Informed of what you do (Allaah can take you to task for being indiscriminate, for He knows your motives).

يا أيها الذين صدَّقوا الله ورسوله وعملوا بشرعه إذا خرجتم في الأرض مجاهدين في سبيل الله فكونوا على بينة مما تأتون وتتركون، ولا تنفوا الإيمان عمن بدا منه شيء من علامات الإسلام ولم يقاتلكم; لاحتمال أن يكون مؤمنًا يخفي إيمانه، طالبين بذلك متاع الحياة الدنيا، والله تعالى عنده من الفضل والعطاء ما يغنيكم به، كذلك كنتم في بدء الإسلام تخفون إيمانكم عن قومكم من…
