The Holy Quran 4:102 — Surah An-Nisa

Arabic text

وَإِذَا كُنتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ فَلْتَقُمْ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُم مَّعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ فَإِذَا سَجَدُوا۟ فَلْيَكُونُوا۟ مِن وَرَآئِكُمْ وَلْتَأْتِ طَآئِفَةٌ أُخْرَىٰ لَمْ يُصَلُّوا۟ فَلْيُصَلُّوا۟ مَعَكَ وَلْيَأْخُذُوا۟ حِذْرَهُمْ وَأَسْلِحَتَهُمْ ۗ وَدَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ تَغْفُلُونَ عَنْ أَسْلِحَتِكُمْ وَأَمْتِعَتِكُمْ فَيَمِيلُونَ عَلَيْكُم مَّيْلَةً وَٰحِدَةً ۚ وَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِن كَانَ بِكُمْ أَذًى مِّن مَّطَرٍ أَوْ كُنتُم مَّرْضَىٰٓ أَن تَضَعُوٓا۟ أَسْلِحَتَكُمْ ۖ وَخُذُوا۟ حِذْرَكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَعَدَّ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابًا مُّهِينًا

Translation

When you (O Muhammad ﷺ) are with them (present with the Muslims on the battlefield) and you lead them in salaah, a group from them should stand with you (in salaah while another group faces the enemy) and keep their weapons (with them). Then when they have prostrated, they should fall behind (join) you (to face the enemy) and the second group, who have not yet performed salaah (but were until now facing the enemy), should come forward and perform salaah with you, taking their precautions (not to be hurt in doing so) and their weapons. The Kuffaar wish that you would neglect (be oblivious of) your weapons and equipment (when you perform salaah) so that they may launch (pounce) an all-out attack against you (and finish you off once and for all). There is no sin on you if you lay down your weapons because of destructive rains or if you fall ill (due to weakness). Take your precautions (always be on guard against your enemies and be prepared to fight them) ! Indeed Allaah has prepared a humiliating punishment for the Kaafiroon (Muslims should plan, be cautious and diligent).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وإذا كنت -أيها النبي- في ساحة القتال، فأردت أن تصلي بهم، فلتقم جماعة منهم معك للصلاة، وليأخذوا سلاحهم، فإذا سجد هؤلاء فلتكن الجماعة الأخرى من خلفكم في مواجهة عدوكم، وتتم الجماعة الأولى ركعتهم الثانية ويُسلِّمون، ثم تأتي الجماعة الأخرى التي لم تبدأ الصلاة فليأتموا بك في ركعتهم الأولى، ثم يكملوا بأنفسهم ركعتهم الثانية، وليحذروا مِن عدوهم وليأخذوا أسلحتهم.
