The Holy Quran 46:28 — Surah Al-Ahqaf

Arabic text

فَلَوْلَا نَصَرَهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ قُرْبَانًا ءَالِهَةًۢ ۖ بَلْ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنْهُمْ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ إِفْكُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ

Translation

So why were they not helped by those (gods) whom they took (worshipped) as a means of gaining proximity (to Allaah and whom they took) as their gods? They (these gods) will be lost to them (will not be there when they need help). This (belief that their gods are worthy of worship and will intercede on their behalf) is merely their lie and what they concoct.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فهلا نصر هؤلاء الذين أهلكناهم من الأمم الخالية آلهتُهم التي اتخذوا عبادتها قربانًا يتقربون بها إلى ربهم; لتشفع لهم عنده، بل ضلَّت عنهم آلهتهم، فلم يجيبوهم، ولا دافعوا عنهم، وذلك كذبهم وما كانوا يَفْتَرون في اتخاذهم إياهم آلهة.
