The Holy Quran 46:27 — Surah Al-Ahqaf

Arabic text

وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا مَا حَوْلَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ وَصَرَّفْنَا ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

Translation

(Just as We destroyed the Aad,) We have destroyed several towns around (the people of Thamood, Lut) you. (However, before Our punishment struck them,) We had clearly explained the Aayaat (to them) so that they return (to Imaan). (It was only after they had received ample warning that they were destroyed.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولقد أهلكنا ما حولكم يا أهل «مكة» من القرى كعاد وثمود، فجعلناها خاوية على عروشها، وبيَّنَّا لهم أنواع الحجج والدلالات؛ لعلهم يرجعون عما كانوا عليه من الكفر بالله وآياته.
