The Holy Quran 46:26 — Surah Al-Ahqaf

Arabic text

وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّـٰهُمْ فِيمَآ إِن مَّكَّنَّـٰكُمْ فِيهِ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُمْ سَمْعًا وَأَبْصَـٰرًا وَأَفْـِٔدَةً فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُمْ سَمْعُهُمْ وَلَآ أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ وَلَآ أَفْـِٔدَتُهُم مِّن شَىْءٍ إِذْ كَانُوا۟ يَجْحَدُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

Translation

We granted them (the Aad) powers (immense physical strength) that We never gave you people (or any other before or after them) and We gave them (physical and spiritual) ears, eyes and hearts (with which they were able to hear, see and accept the truth of Towheed). However, their ears, eyes and hearts were of no benefit to them at all because they rejected Allaah's Aayaat and (eventually) the (punishment for the) mockery they made (of Allaah's Deen and Nabi) encompassed them (allowing them no escape).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولقد يسَّرنا لعاد أسباب التمكين في الدنيا على نحوٍ لم نمكنكم فيه معشر كفار قريش، وجعلنا لهم سمعًا يسمعون به، وأبصارًا يبصرون بها، وأفئدة يعقلون بها، فاستعملوها فيما يسخط الله عليهم، فلم تغن عنهم شيئًا إذ كانوا يكذِّبون بحجج الله، ونزل بهم من العذاب ما سخروا به واستعجلوه. وهذا وعيد من الله جل شأنه، وتحذير للكافرين.
