The Holy Quran 40:34 — Surah Ghafir

Arabic text

وَلَقَدْ جَآءَكُمْ يُوسُفُ مِن قَبْلُ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا زِلْتُمْ فِى شَكٍّ مِّمَّا جَآءَكُم بِهِۦ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلْتُمْ لَن يَبْعَثَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ رَسُولًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ مُسْرِفٌ مُّرْتَابٌ

Translation

"Without doubt, Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام came to you with clear signs (to prove that he was Allaah's true Rasool), but you remained (continued) in constant doubt about what he brought to you until the time came when he passed away, then you said, 'Allaah shall never ever send a Rasool after him (Allaah knows that it is futile to send another because we will reject him just as we rejected Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام). Thus does Allaah allow those people to go astray who transgress (exceed) the limits and who are sceptical..." (doubtful)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولقد أرسل الله إليكم النبيَّ الكريم يوسف بن يعقوب عليهما السلام من قبل موسى، بالدلائل الواضحة على صدقه، وأمركم بعبادة الله وحده لا شريك له، فما زلتم مرتابين مما جاءكم به في حياته، حتى إذا مات ازداد شككم وشرككم، وقلتم: إن الله لن يرسل من بعده رسولا، مثل ذلك الضلال يُضِلُّ الله كل متجاوز للحق، شاكٍّ في وحدانية الله تعالى، فلا يوفقه إلى الهدى والرشاد.
