The Holy Quran 35:39 — Surah Fatir

Arabic text

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَـٰٓئِفَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ فَمَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَيْهِ كُفْرُهُۥ ۖ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ كُفْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا مَقْتًا ۖ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ كُفْرُهُمْ إِلَّا خَسَارًا

Translation

It is He Who made you successors (of each other) on earth. Whoever commits kufr, then his kufr is to his own detriment (because it will not harm Allaah in any way). The kufr of the Kaafiroon will only increase the wrath of their Rabb for them (causing them to suffer more punishment). The kufr of the Kaafiroon will only increase them in loss.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

الله هو الذي جعلكم -أيها الناس- يَخْلُف بعضكم بعضًا في الأرض، فمن جحد وحدانية الله منكم فعلى نفسه ضرره وكفره ولا يزيد الكافرين كفرهم عند ربهم إلا بغضًا وغضبًا، ولا يزيدهم كفرهم بالله إلا ضلالا وهلاكًا.
