The Holy Quran 34:33 — Surah Saba

Arabic text

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ بَلْ مَكْرُ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذْ تَأْمُرُونَنَآ أَن نَّكْفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَنَجْعَلَ لَهُۥٓ أَندَادًا ۚ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلْأَغْلَـٰلَ فِىٓ أَعْنَاقِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

Those of a lower status (weak ones) will say to those of a higher status (the proud leaders), "Day and night did your schemes (deception) prevent us (from Islaam) when you (tirelessly) instructed (deceived) us to disbelieve in Allaah and to ascribe partners to Him." (However,) They (both groups) will suppress (hide) their remorse (for not accepting Imaan) when they see the punishment (knowing that remorse will now be useless to them and fearing that others will taunt them). We will then place yokes on the necks of the Kuffaar (and drag them to Jahannam). They will be punished only for what they did (and not for anything they did not do).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وقال المستضعفون لرؤسائهم في الضلال: بل تدبيركم الشر لنا في الليل والنهار هو الذي أوقعنا في التهلكة، فكنتم تطلبون منا أن نكفر بالله، ونجعل له شركاء في العبادة، وأسرَّ كُلٌّ من الفريقين الحسرة حين رأوا العذاب الذي أُعدَّ لهم، وجعلنا الأغلال في أعناق الذين كفروا، لا يعاقَبون بهذا العقاب إلا بسبب كفرهم بالله وعملهم السيئات في الدنيا.
