The Holy Quran 34:14 — Surah Saba

Arabic text

فَلَمَّا قَضَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ ٱلْمَوْتَ مَا دَلَّهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَوْتِهِۦٓ إِلَّا دَآبَّةُ ٱلْأَرْضِ تَأْكُلُ مِنسَأَتَهُۥ ۖ فَلَمَّا خَرَّ تَبَيَّنَتِ ٱلْجِنُّ أَن لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ ٱلْغَيْبَ مَا لَبِثُوا۟ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ

Translation

When We decreed death for him (Sulaymaan عليه الصلاة والسلام as he stood watch over the Jinn constructing something), it was only the termites that made them aware of his death by eating his staff (thereby causing his body to fall without the support of the staff). When he fell, it became evident to the Jinn that if they had knowledge of the unseen (as some claimed), they (would have known of his death a long time ago and) would not have remained in a humiliating (disgraceful) punishment. (Had they known of his death, they would not have punished themselves by continuing the hard work. This incident made it clear to the people that the Jinn do not possess knowledge of the unseen.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فلما قضينا على سليمان بالموت ما دلَّ الجن على موته إلا الأرَضَةُ تأكل عصاه التي كان متكئًا عليها، فوقع سليمان على الأرض، عند ذلك علمت الجن أنهم لو كانوا يعلمون الغيب ما أقاموا في العذاب المذلِّ والعمل الشاق لسليمان؛ ظنا منهم أنه من الأحياء.
