The Holy Quran 2:173 — Surah Al-Baqarah
Translation
Allaah has forbidden for you (to eat) Mayta (an animal which dies a natural death or which is not slaughtered or hunted in accordance with the Shari'ah), blood (that flows from the animal's body), the meat of pigs (and all other parts of its body), and (the meat of) those animals that were sacrificed with (the slaughterer taking) the name of another besides Allaah (such as the name of an idol, Jinn, saint, prophet, etc). As for him who is driven by necessity (to eat these forbidden foods for fear of losing his life), then (if he eats them) neither rebelliously (without taking enjoyment), nor transgressing the limits (without eating more than is necessary to keep him alive), there will be no sin upon him. Verily Allaah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful (towards His obedient servants and therefore makes His laws easy for them).
Tafsir (excerpt) —
