The Holy Quran 2:174 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْتُمُونَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَيَشْتَرُونَ بِهِۦ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۙ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مَا يَأْكُلُونَ فِى بُطُونِهِمْ إِلَّا ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا يُكَلِّمُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ وَلَا يُزَكِّيهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Translation

Verily those who hide (or make changes to) that book which Allaah has revealed, selling it for a small price(referring to the Jewish Rabbis who hid from people the description of Rasulullaah ﷺ in the Torah so that they would not lose the bribes, gifts and acknowledgements of gratitude that people gave them); these people only fill their bellies with fire. Allaah will neither speak to them (with kindness and mercy) on the Day of Judgement (because He will be angry with them), nor will He purify them (from the filth of their sins). They will receive a most painful punishment (that will penetrate their inner selves and from which there shall be no salvation).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

إن الذين يُخْفون ما أنزل الله في كتبه من صفة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وغير ذلك من الحق، ويحرصون على أخذ عوض قليل من عرض الحياة الدنيا مقابل هذا الإخفاء، هؤلاء ما يأكلون في مقابلة كتمان الحق إلا نار جهنم تتأجج في بطونهم، ولا يكلمهم الله يوم القيامة لغضبه وسخطه عليهم، ولا يطهرهم من دنس ذنوبهم وكفرهم، ولهم عذاب موجع.
