The Holy Quran 2:134 — Surah Al-Baqarah

Arabic text

تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ ۖ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُسْـَٔلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

They (Ibraheem, Yaqoob and their children) were a group (Ummah/nation) who have passed on. To their benefit will be the actions they have earned (done) and to your benefit will be the actions that you earn (the actions that you do). You will not be questioned about what they did.

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

تلك أُمَّة من أسلافكم قد مضَتْ، لهم أعمالهم، ولكم أعمَالكم، ولا تُسْألون عن أعمالهم، وهم لا يُسْألون عن أعمالكم، وكلٌّ سيجازى بما فعله، لا يؤاخذ أحد بذنب أحد، ولا ينفعُ أحدًا إلا إيمانُه وتقواه.
