The Holy Quran 29:46 — Surah Al-'Ankabut

Arabic text

۞ وَلَا تُجَـٰدِلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَأُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَإِلَـٰهُنَا وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ وَٰحِدٌ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُسْلِمُونَ

Translation

Debate with the People of the Book only with that (in a manner) which is best (which proves your standpoint without insulting them); except those of them who are unjust (those who are obstinate, for it is best to leave them alone). And say (to them), "We believe in what was revealed to us (through Rasulullaah ﷺ) and what was revealed to you (through your Ambiyaa عليهم الصلاة والسلام). (The essence of what was revealed to all the Ambiyaa is that) Our Ilaah and your Ilaah is One and (therefore) we surrender (Only) to Him (to His commands)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولا تجادلوا -أيها المؤمنون- اليهودَ والنصارى إلا بالأسلوب الحسن، والقول الجميل، والدعوة إلى الحق بأيسر طريق موصل لذلك، إلا الذين حادوا عن وجه الحق وعاندوا وكابروا وأعلنوا الحرب عليكم فجالدوهم بالسيف حتى يؤمنوا، أو يعطوا الجزية عن يدٍ وهم صاغرون، وقولوا: آمنا بالقرآن الذي أُنزل إلينا، وآمنا بالتوراة والإنجيل اللذَيْن أُنزلا إليكم، وإلهنا وإلهكم واحد لا شريك…
