The Holy Quran 29:38 — Surah Al-'Ankabut

Arabic text

وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَا۟ وَقَد تَّبَيَّنَ لَكُم مِّن مَّسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۖ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَكَانُوا۟ مُسْتَبْصِرِينَ

Translation

And (We also destroyed) the Aad and the Thamud, whose condition (destruction) is apparent (has became clear) to you by (the ruins that are left of) their dwellings. Shaytaan (secretly) beautified their (evil) actions for them and prevented them from the straight path even though they were people of deep insight. (However, his trickery fooled even them.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وأهلكنا عادًا وثمود، وقد تبين لكم من مساكنهم خَرابُها وخلاؤها منهم، وحلول نقمتنا بهم جميعًا، وحسَّن لهم الشيطان أعمالهم القبيحة، فصدَّهم عن سبيل الله وعن طريق الإيمان به وبرسله، وكانوا مستبصرين في كفرهم وضلالهم، معجبين به، يحسبون أنهم على هدى وصواب، بينما هم في الضلال غارقون.
