The Holy Quran 28:48 — Surah Al-Qasas

Arabic text

فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِنْ عِندِنَا قَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُوتِىَ مِثْلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰٓ ۚ أَوَلَمْ يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ قَالُوا۟ سِحْرَانِ تَظَـٰهَرَا وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِكُلٍّ كَـٰفِرُونَ

Translation

When the truth (Muhammad ﷺ) came to them (the Mushrikeen of Makkah) from Us, they said, "Why is he not given something like that which was given to Moosa (such as the staff that became a snake, the shining hand or the entire scripture at once)?" (If it is these things that make people accept Imaan, then) Did people not reject (disbelieve) what was previously given to Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام" They said (about Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام and Haaroon عليه الصلاة والسلام) "Two magicians assisting each other," and they said, "We do not accept any of them." (Therefore, it is very likely that the Mushrikeen of Makkah will also reject these miracles like the people of Fir'oun did.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فلما جاء محمد هؤلاء القوم نذيرًا لهم، قالوا: هلا أوتي هذا الذي أُرسل إلينا مثل ما أوتي موسى من معجزات حسية، وكتابٍ نزل جملة واحدة! قل -أيها الرسول- لهم: أو لم يكفر اليهود بما أوتي موسى من قبل؟ قالوا: في التوراة والقرآن سحران تعاونا في سحرهما، وقالوا: نحن بكل منهما كافرون.
