The Holy Quran 28:19 — Surah Al-Qasas

Arabic text

فَلَمَّآ أَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يَبْطِشَ بِٱلَّذِى هُوَ عَدُوٌّ لَّهُمَا قَالَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ أَتُرِيدُ أَن تَقْتُلَنِى كَمَا قَتَلْتَ نَفْسًۢا بِٱلْأَمْسِ ۖ إِن تُرِيدُ إِلَّآ أَن تَكُونَ جَبَّارًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا تُرِيدُ أَن تَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُصْلِحِينَ

Translation

(Therefore, Moosa decided to assist the Israelite. However,) When Moosa intended to grab hold of the person who was an enemy to both of them (the Copt), he (the Israelite thought that Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام was going to grab hold of him and therefore) said, "O Moosa! Do you wish to kill me like you killed the person yesterday? You only wish to become a tyrant on earth and have no intention of becoming a reformer." (Hearing this, the Copt reported to Fir'oun that it was Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام who had killed the Copt the previous day. Fir'oun and his ministers therefore decided that Moosa عليه الصلاة والسلام should be executed.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

فلما أن أراد موسى أن يبطش بالقبطي، قال: يا موسى أتريد أن تقتلني كما قتلت نفسًا بالأمس؟ ما تريد إلا أن تكون طاغية في الأرض، وما تريد أن تكون من الذين يصلحون بين الناس.
