The Holy Quran 27:49 — Surah An-Naml

Arabic text

قَالُوا۟ تَقَاسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ لَنُبَيِّتَنَّهُۥ وَأَهْلَهُۥ ثُمَّ لَنَقُولَنَّ لِوَلِيِّهِۦ مَا شَهِدْنَا مَهْلِكَ أَهْلِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ

Translation

They said (to each other), "You should all swear an oath by Allaah that we will all secretly kill him (Saalih عليه الصلاة والسلام) and his family (the Mu'mineen) at night, after which we shall tell his successors (his tribe), 'We were not present at the place where his family was killed (and therefore know nothing about the murders), and we are certainly truthful."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

قال هؤلاء التسعة بعضهم لبعض: تقاسموا بالله بأن يحلف كل واحد للآخرين: لنأتينَّ صالحًا بغتة في الليل فنقتله ونقتل أهله، ثم لنقولَنَّ لوليِّ الدم مِن قرابته: ما حضرنا قتلهم، وإنا لصادقون فيما قلناه.
