The Holy Quran 24:53 — Surah An-Nur

Arabic text

۞ وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ لَئِنْ أَمَرْتَهُمْ لَيَخْرُجُنَّ ۖ قُل لَّا تُقْسِمُوا۟ ۖ طَاعَةٌ مَّعْرُوفَةٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

They (the Munaafiqeen) swear solemn oaths in Allaah's name, saying that (they are so obedient to Allaah and Rasulullaah ﷺ that) if you command them (to leave their homes), they will certainly leave their homes. Tell them, "Do not swear (false oaths). Obedience can be recognised (by a person's acts and speech and does not need oaths to reveal it). Allaah is surely Informed of what you do (and knows exactly what your intentions are)."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وأقسم المنافقون بالله تعالى غاية اجتهادهم في الأيمان المغلَّظة: لئن أمرتنا - أيها الرسول - بالخروج للجهاد معك لنخرجن، قل لهم: لا تحلفوا كذبًا، فطاعتكم معروفة بأنها باللسان فحسب، إن الله خبير بما تعملونه، وسيجازيكم عليه.
