The Holy Quran 20:89 — Surah Taha

Arabic text

أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّا يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا

Translation

Could they (those who worshipped the calf) not see that it (the calf) could not reply to them nor did it possess the ability to benefit or harm them? (How could it therefore be their god?)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

أفلا يرى الذين عبدوا العجل أنه لا يكلمهم ابتداء، ولا يردُّ عليهم جوابًا، ولا يقدر على دفع ضرٍّ عنهم، ولا جلب نفع لهم؟
