The Holy Quran 17:85 — Surah Al-Isra

Arabic text

وَيَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلرُّوحِ ۖ قُلِ ٱلرُّوحُ مِنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّى وَمَآ أُوتِيتُم مِّنَ ٱلْعِلْمِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Translation

They (the Jews) ask you (O Muhammad ﷺ) about the soul (What is it?). (Without giving a detailed reply to the question, Allaah commands Rasulullaah ﷺ to) Say, "It is from the command of my Rabb (It is from among Allaah's creation)." You have been granted only a little bit of knowledge. (The knowledge of mankind and that of Rasulullaah ﷺ is extremely little compared to the knowledge of Allaah. Whereas man cannot even understand the reality of the soul that is within him, how can he hope to understand Allaah as He really is?)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ويسألك الكفار عن حقيقة الروح تعنتًا، فأجبهم بأن حقيقة الروح وأحوالها من الأمور التي استأثر الله بعلمها، وما أُعطيتم أنتم وجميع الناس من العلم إلا شيئًا قليلا.
