The Holy Quran 17:34 — Surah Al-Isra

Arabic text

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ مَالَ ٱلْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔولًا

Translation

And approach not the wealth of the orphan only in a manner that is best until he comes of age (Never misuse the wealth of orphans in your care while they are underage and unable to use their money. However, when they come of age and are capable of managing their own finances, their wealth should be given to them). And fulfil the pledge (pledges made with people as well as pledges made with Allaah). Certainly, questioning shall take place (on the Day of Qiyaamah) with regard to pledges (and people will be taken to task for breaking their pledges).

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ولا تتصرَّفوا في أموال الأطفال الذين مات آباؤهم وهم دون سن البلوغ، وصاروا في كفالتكم، إلا بالطريقة التي هي أحسن لهم، وهي التثمير والتنمية، حتى يبلغ الطفل اليتيم سنَّ البلوغ، وحسن التصرف في المال، وأتموا الوفاء بكل عهد التزمتم به. إن العهد يسأل الله عنه صاحبه يوم القيامة، فيثيبه إذا أتمه ووفَّاه، ويعاقبه إذا خان فيه.
