The Holy Quran 14:26 — Surah Ibrahim

Arabic text

وَمَثَلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ ٱجْتُثَّتْ مِن فَوْقِ ٱلْأَرْضِ مَا لَهَا مِن قَرَارٍ

Translation

And the example of the evil word (the statements of kufr) is like that of a miserable tree (such as wild weeds) that is uprooted from the ground, having no stability. (Like this unstable plant, the beliefs and statements of the Kuffaar are extremely weak even though they appear to be strong. They give no benefit and are soon destroyed.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

ومثل كلمة خبيثة -وهي كلمة الكفر- كشجرة خبيثة المأكل والمطعم، وهي شجرة الحنظل، اقتلعت من أعلى الأرض؛ لأن عروقها قريبة من سطح الأرض ما لها أصل ثابت، ولا فرع صاعد، وكذلك الكافر لا ثبات له ولا خير فيه، ولا يُرْفَع له عمل صالح إلى الله.
