The Holy Quran 14:10 — Surah Ibrahim

Arabic text

۞ قَالَتْ رُسُلُهُمْ أَفِى ٱللَّهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِيَغْفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا فَأْتُونَا بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

Translation

Their Rusul said, “Are you in (any) doubt about Allaah, Who is the Creator of the heavens and the earth? (How can you doubt His existence when everything around you indicates His presence?) He calls you to (worship Him so that He may) forgive (all) your sins and grant you respite (relief from punishment) until the appointed term (until the time of your death)." They said, "You are but mere humans like ourselves (so why should we follow you?). You intend to (always) prevent us from what our forefathers used to worship. So (if you want us to follow you, you should) produce a clear proof (a miracle of our choice to convince us that you really are messengers of Allaah)!"

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

قالت لهم رسلهم: أفي الله وعبادته -وحده- ريب، وهو خالق السموات والأرض، ومنشئهما من العدم على غير مثال سابق، وهو يدعوكم إلى الإيمان; ليغفر لكم ما أسلفتم من الشرك، ويدفع عنكم عذاب الاستئصال، فيؤخر بقاءكم في الدنيا إلى أجل قدَّره، وهو نهاية آجالكم، فلا يعذبكم في الدنيا؟ فقالوا لرسلهم: ما نراكم إلا بشرًا صفاتكم كصفاتنا، لا فضل لكم علينا يؤهلكم أن تكونوا رسلا.
