The Holy Quran 12:67 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

وَقَالَ يَـٰبَنِىَّ لَا تَدْخُلُوا۟ مِنۢ بَابٍ وَٰحِدٍ وَٱدْخُلُوا۟ مِنْ أَبْوَٰبٍ مُّتَفَرِّقَةٍ ۖ وَمَآ أُغْنِى عَنكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ ۖ إِنِ ٱلْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ ۖ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ ۖ وَعَلَيْهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ

Translation

(Sending Bin Yaameen with them,) He (Yaqoob عليه الصلاة والسلام) said, "O my sons! Do not enter (the city, all of you together) through one gate, but enter from different gates (so that no harm comes to all of you at once, so that you are not afflicted with the evil-eye when people's attention is drawn to you and so that no suspicions are raised about your arrival). (This precaution is merely an effort to avert harm from you, but the fact is that) I cannot be of any benefit to you against (the will of) Allaah (If Allaah wills harm to come your way, the precaution will be of no use to you). Decisions rest with Allaah. Only on Him do I rely, and all those who pin (put) their reliance (trust) should rely only on Him."

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وقال لهم أبوهم: يا أبنائي إذا دخلتم أرض «مصر» فلا تدخلوا مِن باب واحد، ولكن ادخلوها من أبواب متفرقة، حتى لا تصيبكم العين، وإني إذ أوصيكم بهذا لا أدفع عنكم شيئًا قضاه الله عليكم، فما الحكم إلا لله وحده، عليه اعتمدت ووثقت، وعليه وحده يعتمد المؤمنون.
