The Holy Quran 12:19 — Surah Yusuf

Arabic text

وَجَآءَتْ سَيَّارَةٌ فَأَرْسَلُوا۟ وَارِدَهُمْ فَأَدْلَىٰ دَلْوَهُۥ ۖ قَالَ يَـٰبُشْرَىٰ هَـٰذَا غُلَـٰمٌ ۚ وَأَسَرُّوهُ بِضَـٰعَةً ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ

Translation

(Soon after 3 days) Some travellers arrived (near the well) and they sent their person who fetches water (to the well to get them some water). He lowered his bucket (into the well) and (seeing Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام hanging onto the bucket, he) exclaimed, “What luck! There is a boy here!" They hid him (among their goods so that no one lays claim to him) as trading stock (intending to sell him as a slave), and Allaah had perfect knowledge of what they did. (When the brothers discovered that the travellers had removed Yusuf عليه الصلاة والسلام from the well, they told the travellers that he was their escaped slave and that they were willing to sell him.)

Tafsir (excerpt) — التفسير الميسر

وجاءت جماعة من المسافرين، فأرسلوا مَن يطلب لهم الماء، فلما أرسل دلوه في البئر تعلَّق بها يوسف، ففرح وارد الماء وابتهج بالعثور على غلام، وقال: يا بشري هذا غلام نفيس، وأخفى الواردُ وأصحابه يوسفَ عن بقية المسافرين فلم يظهروه لهم، وقالوا: إن هذه بضاعة استبضعناها، والله عليم بما يعملونه بيوسف.
